How does a WiFi QR code work?
A WiFi QR code stores your network name, password and security type in a standard format that every modern phone understands. When someone points their camera at the code, the phone shows a "Join network" prompt — one tap and they are connected. No spelling mistakes, no awkwardly reading out a 16-character password.
This is why WiFi QR codes have become standard in cafés, hotels, guest houses, offices and homes. Print one, frame it near the entrance, and your guests connect themselves.
How to scan a WiFi QR code
- iPhone: Open the Camera app, point at the code, then tap the "Join Network" notification.
- Android: Open the Camera or Google Lens, point at the code, and tap "Connect".
Is it safe to share my WiFi with a QR code?
The QR code contains exactly the same information you would tell a guest verbally — nothing more. Because QRStickerly generates the code entirely in your browser, your password is never uploaded or stored anywhere. For extra security, many routers let you create a separate guest network; make a QR code for that one instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does the WiFi QR code stop working if I change my password?
Yes — the code stores the password inside the pattern, so after changing your WiFi password you simply generate and print a new code here. It takes ten seconds and is always free.
Which security type should I choose?
Almost all modern routers use WPA or WPA2 — choose that unless you know your network uses old WEP security. For open networks without a password, pick "No password".
Can I make a QR code for a hidden network?
Yes. Tick the "Hidden network" box and phones will know to search for the hidden SSID when connecting.
